What we collect

The data we gather

  • Email address — only when you submit it to receive your Sake Passport or our occasional newsletter.
  • Quiz answers — your responses to the sake persona quiz and the resulting flavor profile. These contain no personally identifying information.
  • Anonymous usage signals — a random identifier stored in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie), and which affiliate links you click. We also record an approximate country from your network connection, but we never store your IP address.

Why we collect it

How we use your data

We use this information to improve our sake recommendations, to understand which bottles resonate with which palates, and — if you opted in — to send you sake recommendations and culture stories. We never sell or share your email with third parties.

Where it lives

Storage & retention

Data is stored with our infrastructure providers, Supabase (database) and Vercel (hosting). Your anonymous browser identifier never leaves your device except when attached to the events described above.

Retention periods:

  • Quiz answers & affiliate click signals — retained for 24 months from collection, then deleted automatically.
  • Email address — retained until you unsubscribe or submit a deletion request. We do not impose a hard expiry on opted-in subscribers.

Your choices

Consent, deletion & unsubscribe

Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link — one click and you’re out, with no questions asked.

To request a copy of, or the deletion of, any data associated with your email address and your quiz results, write to us at hello@yamato-do.com. We will action verified requests promptly. Please include the email address you registered with; anonymous quiz data is located by the anonymous ID stored in your browser.

Cookies

No tracking cookies

We do not use tracking cookies. Our anonymous identifier lives in your browser’s local storage, which you can clear at any time through your browser settings — doing so resets your anonymous profile.

Changes

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy as Yamato-dō grows. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date and, where consent is affected, a renewed opt-in.
